The Ibanic longhouse

Iban, longhouse, sepan, bulai,

Iban longhouse model (Sepan house) usually at the foot of the mountain.

Dr. Stefanus Masiun (Chairman of Keling Kumang Credit Union - CUKK) plan to build an arbor house on the land. The locus on the banks of the Sikui River, behind the CUKK office, Tapang Sambas, West Borneo.

Can you imagine of what the two houses look like and the position of the two houses according to your research and who lives there?

What is the picture of the arbor, downy mildew, and panned house, and who the occupants are in jeman ari kelia --a long time ago.

I took it from the historical novel, Keling Kumang, which I researched and published in 2015.

Actually, there are 3 kinds of Iban mensia houses jeman ari kelia.
1. Arbor House.
2. Barley House.
3. Sepan House.

Bulai house (riverside), sepan house (at the foot of the mountain), and arbor house (not in the valley not on the riverside).

The sepan house was inhabited by noble daughters, Kumang lived here. Many flowers are scattered in the yard and its surroundings, one of the most popular is the flower: mandikmala. Once upon a time, Kumang was umbung (pinged), could not leave the house until the first menstruation.

Rumah Punjung was inhabited by noble sons, such as Keling and Dabung. It is the ideal locus. Safe. It's easy to see who's coming. The arbor house is the longest in the entire Buah Main kingdom with a length of 70 x 7 resin rays, or about 1 km. The total heads of the occupant families are 160, each inhabiting a room 6 meters wide and 3 times the width (18 m) backward.
The arbor house is located very, very strategically. Usually built somewhat on a headland at the foot of the tatai (hill / munggu), and always given abundance even in the long dry season, people especially residents who live in penal houses and sepan houses call it "the land of heaven". Neighboring countries also refer to house harvests and arbor house officials as "upper humans" because they are deeper in everything than the average person. The leader, or harvest of the house, comes from the inhabitants of this house. It is said that Gemuring Gading and Keling are the harvest of the arbor house which also heads the sepan and downy mildew house.

The Ibans in Sarawak, Malayisa call the arbor house, where Keling lives, as the longhouse of Panggau Libau Lendat Dibiau Takang Isang.

The sepan house was inhabited by noble daughters, Kumang lived here. Many flowers are scattered in the yard and its surroundings, one of the most popular is the flower: mandikmala. Once upon a time, Kumang was umbung (pinged), could not leave the house until the first menstruation. The Ibans in Sarawak, Malayisa call the house of Sepan, where Kumang lives as the longhouse of Gelong Batu Nakong Nyingit Nyingong Nyimbang Nyerabang. In addition to Kumang, it is said that the beautiful looking princesses who live in Sepan's house are Lulong and Ndai Abang.

While the downy mildew house is inhabited by commoners.

Overall., the Ibanic longhouse according to Jensen in Noriah and Chemaline Osup (2013) there are seven parts: 1) the bilek that is lived or inhabited by the core members of a family and in the bilek there are two parts,
namely the bottom (for children) and the top (for the elderly),
2) the place is above the bilek where household appliances such as mats are stored, baskets, machetes, and family utensils;
3) los or ruai is an open place separated by roof posts, 4) tanju which is the outside of the ruai built without a roof used to dry agricultural products, including rubber and resin, 5) a nearby kitchen is covered / warmed by the head of the enemy called "antu pala" (head cup),
6) padong which is a kind of recliner where to laze around,
relax, as well as to sleep, and
7) a retreat or corridor.
